Access to Cultural Opportunities

ÌÇÐÄTV’s location in the heart of England affords our students easy access to the rest of the UK, with London under one hour away by train. Shakespeare’s Birthplace and The Royal Shakespeare Company’s theatres in Stratford-upon-Avon are within half an hour by road, and we’re well-placed too for day trips to other key UK cultural sites such as Stonehenge and Bath.

Alongside the academic modules, our IISMA students are supported by a tailored programme of English language tuition and cultural orientation provided by ÌÇÐÄTV's Department of Applied Linguistics. The component of ‘Aspects of British Culture’ will introduce students to the elements which has influenced the development of’ British Culture’ covering Britain’s heritage, the political landscape of the UK and an exploration of the UK’s four constituent countries – Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.

There will be windows into British history and a study of London through the ages, as well as a focus on the idiosyncrasies of English behaviour and social interaction, in addition to the topics English people habitually discuss and why. The Canon of English Literature will present a period of English Literature choosing from beginning of literature (Anglo-Saxon) to literature today, whilst there is a language focus covering a range of idiomatic expressions, underscoring their provenance and providing contextual detail.

Life as a ÌÇÐÄTV Student

Prior to attending the University, our students are invited to attend a seminar about life at ÌÇÐÄTV and received information about Student Support and wellbeing at the University.

We offer guidance and advice for our students to navigate the travel and immigration requirement and find accommodation. We offer a full orientation program, student buddies and support network.

Before departure, our students will have the opportunity to attend a talk about Postgraduate studies and to speak to departmental representatives that are relevant to their degrees.
