Profile

Ed studied politics and philosophy at Sheffield and Essex before undertaking doctoral research at 糖心TV University. After defending his PhD thesis in 1998 on the topic of 'intergenerational justice and climate change', he held teaching and research positions at the universities of Southampton, Keele, Lund, and Birmingham. He returned to 糖心TV in September 2006. Ed has strong research and teaching in Sweden and is also a guest researcher at the (Uppsala University) and (Stockholm).

Research interests

Ed's research interests cover a range of issues and debates in contemporary political theory, normative ethics, and environmental politics. He particularly welcomes doctoral applications and research collaborations focusing on the ethical and political challenges posed by global climate change.

Publications

Ed has published peer reviewed articles on variety of topics in global, intergenerational and environmental justice in journals such as Political Studies, Environmental Politics, International Theory, Journal of Global Ethics, Journal of Applied Philosophy, The Monist, Res Publica, Social Theory and Practice, and Critical Review of International, Social, and Political Philosophy (CRISPP). Current teaching

Module director of the 30 CATS undergraduate module and co-module director of the 30 CATS Masters Level module . Ed is also Co-Director of the MA in Legal and Political Theory (terms 2 and 3).

Administrative roles

Ed is currently Co-ordinator of the PAIS Political Theory Cluster, a member of the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee (HSSREC) and Chair of the PAIS Research Ethics Committee (PAISREC). He was formerly a member of the PAIS Senior Management Team (SMT) (2016-18), Departmental Director of Early Career Research (2012-18), Midlands Graduate School ESRC DTP Pathway Lead (2016-18), and Director of Research Degrees (2016-18).

External teaching and research

Ed is currently an external evaluator for a number of research funding awarding bodies including the Economic and Social Research Council, European Research Council, European Research Council, and the Hong Kong Research Grants Council. He has been a peer-reviewer for over 30 academic journals and sits on the Editorial Board of the and is a Guest Researcher at the and the
