PAIS Co-Organising EUIA Conference in 2027 - Call for Papers Now Open
The call for papers is now open for the 10th edition of the European Union in International Affairs (EUIA) Conference, taking place in Brussels, Belgium from 12-14 May 2027. As a co-organiser of the conference the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) is pleased to encourage colleagues to consider submitting their research and attending this leading international event.
This year's conference theme,鈥淓urope in a Disrupted Global Order鈥, will explore how the European Union is responding to major global challenges, including geopolitical tensions, conflict, technological change, climate governance, enlargement, and evolving international partnerships. The conference provides a forum for both senior and early-career scholars to debate the EU's role in contemporary international affairs and welcomes contributions from across the social sciences and humanities.
The submission deadline for papers and panels is 6 December 2026 (23:59 CET), with the conference itself taking place in May 2027. Proposals can be submitted as individual papers or full panel sessions.
While the conference focuses broadly on the European Union's place in international affairs, research does not need to be exclusively EU-focused. Work examining global challenges and Europe's role in addressing them would be highly relevant, making the conference suitable for a wide range of research projects across PAIS.
The conference is widely regarded as one of the key gatherings for scholars working on Europe and international affairs, attracting a large international audience. Previous editions have featured high-profile keynote speakers, including the European Commissioner for Enlargement.
As a benefit of PAIS's role as a co-organiser, PAIS colleagues are not required to pay a conference registration fee. A number of colleagues are already considering attending, and it would be a great opportunity for members of the department to participate together.
The conference programme will include academic panels, keynote lectures, roundtable discussions with practitioners, networking opportunities, awards, and interactive sessions with editors from leading academic journals. Topics of interest include international trade, diplomacy, security, climate policy, development, migration, AI and foreign policy, EU enlargement, and relations between the EU and non-European actors.
