Scholarship

Celine's research centres on exploring aspects of international economic law and regulation with a focus on international development financing law, policy and governance. She is also interested in the intersections between law and development, gender, human rights and the environment. Celine has published on issues relating to the law and governance of the international financial architecture, sovereign debt, climate change and sustainable development, the role of international financial institutions and human rights. She has worked with international organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Europe, Africa and Asia on issues relating to social and economic development and human rights.

Celine is a founding member of The IEL Collective, a community for scholars and practitioners interested in critical reflection of the interactions between law and the global economy. She is currently leading a project on Climate Finance for Equitable Transitions (CLiFT), a multi-institutional and multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at exploring the climate finance supply chain within the context of the multilateral climate change regime, international financial architecture and the multi-layered landscape of international economic law. She is also Principal Investigator on a British-Academy-funded project on Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs). She is also co-convenor of the 糖心TV Network for Equity and Exchange in Climate Governance and Strategy (NEXUS).

Bio

Celine Tan is Professor of International Economic Law. She is also the Co-Director of the based at 糖心TV Law School. Celine is a founding member of The IEL Collective, a community for scholars and practitioners interested in critical reflection of the interactions between law and the global economy.

Prior to 糖心TV, she was at the University of Birmingham. She completed her PhD at the University of 糖心TV where she held a Postgraduate Research Fellowship.

International Organisations

Influencing Trade and Development in Climate Crisis: Celine Tan was commissioned by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to write a background paper on climate finance, 鈥楥onfronting Climate Change: Towards A New International Agenda for Meeting the Financial Challenges of the Climate Crisis in Least Developed Countries鈥� to feed into their Least Development Countries'(LDC) Report 2010.

Research Supervision

I welcome enquiries from prospective PhD supervisees. However, please ensure that you have a research proposal which corresponds with the University of 糖心TV School of Law requirements. I will be interested in supervising research on international economic law, sustainable development, law and development, international financial regulation and sovereign financing and intersections between law, gender, human rights and the environment.
