James Harrison has been awarded a British Academy/Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowships for the 2021-22 academic year. The fellowship allows James to work exclusively for a year on a project entitled 鈥楻econceptualising international trade law: In search of a bounded, socially embedded and re-connected regime鈥�.

The project explores problems associated with a 鈥榮prawling鈥� international trade law regime which lacks a coherent underlying rationale. The central aim of the project is to develop a new paradigm underlying trade policy that is more socially, developmentally and environmentally responsible, and more sensitive to the practical realities of how international trade is conducted. It builds on a previous empirical research project which was funded by the ESRC entitled 鈥溾��.

James and his colleagues were awarded by the Journal of Common Market Studies for the lead article from that project.
