Information for students: Qualifying as a solicitor - A New Route
Following the about a new route to qualifying as a solicitor, the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE), we want to reassure all current ÌÇÐÄTV Law students that they will continue to have the option to seek qualification as a Solicitor in the way currently expected (by the LPC route following graduation with a qualifying degree).
All students have been emailed with relevant guidance and as more information about the SQE becomes available we will provide further clarity.
All of the current ÌÇÐÄTV Law Degrees may be taken as a Qualifying Law Degree (dependent on taking and passing certain subjects), serving as the first stage of professional qualification for both Solicitors and Barristers in England and Wales.
For students entering the Barristers’ profession, this will remain true for the foreseeable future.
For students entering the Solicitors’ profession, this will remain true for degrees commencing in October 2017, consistent with information currently published to students via the School website and in the pending prospectus.
The Law School is currently reviewing its curriculum in the light of the SQE. For future prospective students, a statement will be formulated when the Review has taken place and any changes have been approved. It is intended that this process will be completed in sufficient time to provide information to students intending to commence their studies in 2018 and beyond.
