ReWAGE in Westminster
ReWAGE held an event at Portcullis House in Westminster on 25 October in partnership with the
Despite it being an extremely busy day in Parliament with the official appointment of a new Prime Minister and a Cabinet reshuffle taking place at the same time, ReWAGE’s co-chairs Professor Irena Grugulis and Professor Chris Warhurst were pleased to welcome Parliamentarians and their representatives from constituencies across the country. Also in attendance were representatives from the House of Lords and colleagues from the CIPD, the Institute for Hospitality, the Corporation of London and the Gatsby Foundation.
Our visitors took the time to find out more about ReWAGE’s work and pick up copies of our publications, including our ReWAGE 1 page explainer showing how ReWAGE engages its Expert Group in analysing the latest work and employment research to advise the government on addressing the challenges facing the UK's productivity and prosperity.
Our Parliamentary sponsor and host (Stoke on Trent Central), said in her introductory speech:
“ReWAGE’s experts have joined forces to provide UK policymakers with high-quality, evidence-based insights from existing research to help give a better understanding of how the challenges currently facing the UK’s productivity and prosperity can be addressed. Not just the pandemic, but the cost-of-living crisis, poor job quality, and lack of access to the skills and training that prevents people taking up available jobs.
“The ‘existing research’ element of ReWAGE’s work is important, as it gives it a unique ability to respond quickly to emerging issues. ReWAGE is not about commissioning new research but is rather about utilising the existing knowledge and research already at its disposal to provide answers to the questions being asked right now and making it usable for government.â€
(CERIC, Leeds University) spoke about a recent report on UK Labour Shortages, which was produced by the in partnership with ReWAGE.
And (Manchester Metropolitan University) spoke about measures that can be taken to mitigate the current cost of living crisis.

In reference to the paper, Selaine Saxby MP said:
"[ReWAGE's] report found that flexible working has benefits for employers, employees and society more broadly; it widens economic opportunity as it reduces barriers to entry and can help diversify economic growth away from urban centres."
