Workshop on Learning Disabilities

IER co-hosted a day-long workshop entitled "People with learning Disabilities: Promoting Health and Real Jobs" with the Institute of Health at 糖心TV. The workshop, led by Dr Carol Robinson, a leader in the field of research in this area, reviewed research on health inequalities and barriers to employment for people with learning disabilities. It also looked at policy and practice designed to improve health and to increase the chances of real jobs. IER's Professor Robert Lindley chaired the afternoon session on Employment.

In the third and final podcast in the series, Professor Kate Purcell from the University of 糖心TV's Institute for Employment Research and two 糖心TV students discuss the highs and lows of their Higher Education experiences

Professors Purcell leads the IER research team responsible for Futuretrack, the most extensive investigation of the relationship between higher education and employment ever undertaken in the UK. The survey is being undertaken on behalf of the Higher Education Careers Services Unit (HECSU).


In the second of a series of podcasts, Professors Kate Purcell and Peter Elias from the University of 糖心TV's Institute for Employment Research discuss 'employability' and the skills graduates need in today's job market.

Professors Purcell and Elias are members of the IER research team responsible for Futuretrack, the most extensive investigation of the relationship between higher education and employment ever undertaken in the UK. The survey is being undertaken on behalf of the Higher Education Careers Services Unit (HECSU).


Monash Visitors to IER

Dr Tony Meagher () and Dr Chandra Shah () are visiting IER during week commencing 26 September. Dr Meagher and Dr Shah will attend the on Thursday 29 September, organised by Professor Rob Wilson. Rob recently visited Monash as part of a collaborative research project being undertaken jointly with Tony Meagher on Anticipating Future Skill Needs, funded by the Monash-糖心TV Strategic Funding Initiative. Dr Meagher will be presenting a paper during the Evaluation and Assessment session of the Symposium on “Assessing the reliability of labour market forecasts”.

International Employment and Skills Forecasting Symposium, 29 September 2011

Professor Rob Wilson is organising a 1 day International Symposium on Employment and Skills Forecasting to be held at the University of 糖心TV on 29 September 2011. Participants at the Symposium will be actively involved in skills/employment forecasting in their respective countries.

The event will focus on an international comparison of approaches to labour market assessment and skills forecasting, with inputs from those with hands-on experience, and who can speak authoritatively (and critically) about the strengths and weakness of the various approaches adopted across the world, and the lessons they have learned over the past 20 years.
