This, co-authored by IER鈥檚 Dr Jeisson Cardenas-Rubio, analyses the impact of the First Metro Line's announcement on housing prices in Bogot谩, Colombia. It combines innovative databases, web scraping and Google Maps with administrative records—such as the Bogot谩 Urban Development Institute (IDU) databases—to assess how the announcement of the metro construction impacts on the rental or sales market prices for the houses surrounding the infrastructure projects.

Accurate, reliable and up-to-date labour market information (LMI) is acknowledged to be essential for successful individual career transitions for individuals making their way into, and through, the labour market. The has been under development at IER since 2012. Its usage across various established websites is testimony to its efficacy and usefulness. Interest in the portal is significant and growing.

The LMI for All database provides a reliable and up-to-date source of national data and careers labour market information. By using the LMI for All API (application programming interface), there is the potential to provide access to data relevant to all individuals at various stages of their learning and career journey for making career decisions. On the 1 December at 11.00 (CET) Cedefop will launch the new Skills Panorama website. Skills Panorama turns labour market data and information into useful, accurate and timely intelligence that informs policy-makers about skills and jobs in Europe. The new website will provide a more comprehensive and user-friendly central access point for information and intelligence on skill needs in occupations and sectors across Europe. The new Skills Panorama is intended primarily for policy-makers and experts. It provides them with a tool for developing evidence-based education and training and planning policy, including measures to tackle labour market mismatches.

Skills Panorama is brought to you by the European Commission and is powered by Cedefop. Peter Elias will be presenting a session entitled "Big data and the Social Sciences – what’s going on?" at the Public Economics UK conference being held at the University of 糖心TV on 18th - 19th June 2013. IER, in conjunction with (the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Education and Training), will be holding a Technical Workshop on Skills Forecasting from 10-11 May 2012 at the University of 糖心TV’s 糖心TV in Venice venue. This invitation-only workshop brings together experts from across the EU and other neighbouring countries to discuss issues relating to skills forecasting within the wider context of the .

The workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss a range of issues including a focus on the latest methodological developments and preliminary results from the 2012 work programme of the Forecasting Skill Supply and Demand project currently being undertaken by a consortium led by IER.
