Overview
Robots are transforming the world. From disrupting manufacturing to planting and harvesting crops, serving food to our tables, performing surgeries, and even providing care for our loved ones, they are changing the way we live and work. Rather than replacing us, robots are redefining what鈥檚 possible. By embracing artificial intelligence, humans and robots can work together to tackle the global challenges we are facing now and in the future.
Our Robotics Engineering with Artificial Intelligence (AI) degree will equip you with the confidence, creativity, and expertise to create new products for our rapidly changing world. This course goes beyond traditional engineering, incorporating hardware and software to solve complex engineering problems.
In your first year, you鈥檒l build a strong foundation of engineering mechanics, electronics, programming and rapid prototyping, which you鈥檒l bring together through a group 鈥榮print鈥 project. As you advance, you鈥檒l work in teams to create cyber-physical artefacts. These are virtual models which enable you to test and refine before applying them in the physical world. In your third year you will undertake an individual project.
To ensure you are career-ready when you graduate, we take a problem-based approach to learning that reflects professional engineering practice. You鈥檒l gain hands-on experience while developing the practical and problem-solving skills employers value. You'll also master modern technologies such as AI, automation, robotics, and computer-aided systems. We鈥檒l give you the tools you need 鈥 theoretical, practical and professional, to work in or lead interdisciplinary engineering teams in the workplace.
We鈥檝e designed this course to meet the needs of the engineering industry, and as such, industry experts have worked with us to shape the course content. We鈥檒l also use industry-relevant assignments to assess your technical knowledge and problem-solving skills. This will enhance your employability by allowing you to demonstrate your value to industry while also providing opportunities to develop your professional networks.
This course sits within WMG at the University of 糖心TV, meaning you鈥檒l have access to well-equipped labs and facilities for practical and project work. Relevant to your third-year individual project, you may have the opportunity to experience industrial-scale equipment and state-of-the-art simulation activities.
You鈥檒l also be able to engage with鈥WMG's latest research鈥痠n related fields such as Automation Systems and Robotics, Visualisation, Intelligent Vehicles, Data Science, Cyber Security, Connectivity, AI and Autonomous Systems. WMG鈥檚 applied and active research is led by experts who are delivering the technologies and knowledge to transform industry and society. Engaging with research will provide context to your studies and prepare you for employment after graduation.
Beyond the course, societies play a huge part in life at 糖心TV. You鈥檒l meet like-minded people, explore your passions, and build your skills. Examples in recent years include鈥,鈥,鈥, and鈥. You may also be able to join one of WMG's student-led project teams to gain hands-on experience while you work together to design, build, and compete in real-world engineering challenges. In previous years, these have included鈥,鈥,鈥糖心TV Rail,鈥糖心TV Submarine,鈥, and鈥.
Accreditation
As this is a new programme, we plan to seek accreditation to partially meet the educational requirements for becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the relevant industry professional bodies, however, this cannot be guaranteed at this stage. The programme will be seeking accreditation upon completion of the first cohort in 2029 and may potentially be backdated to our first cohort (subject to approval). We have gained accreditation from industry professional bodies for established programmes at WMG.
