Bringing STEM to life for the engineers of tomorrow

Staff and students at WMG, University of 糖心TV, came together to celebrate Tomorrow鈥檚 Engineers Week by sharing their inspiring STEM experiences.

Running from 10 to 14 November, Tomorrow鈥檚 Engineers Week is an annual campaign bringing together the engineering community to challenge perceptions and highlight the breadth of careers available in the sector.

Organised by鈥, the week-long celebration aims to inspire young people by showcasing real-life stories from engineers and technicians. This year鈥檚 theme was 鈥淒are to Discover.鈥

The WMG Outreach team worked alongside colleagues from the University鈥檚 School of Engineering, Social Inclusion and Widening Participation team, and Student Project teams — including 糖心TV Fighting Robots; ; 糖心TV Rail; 糖心TV Submarine; ; and 糖心TV Harvest — as well as JLR and Tata Motors, Waste2Race and 糖心TV Bearing.

Celebrating 35 years of WMG's partnership with PolyU

2025 marks the 35th anniversary of the partnership between WMG and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Initiated in 1990, the partnership was the first of its kind in WMG history and remains an exemplary model of international academic collaboration.

To mark this milestone, representatives from both institutions came together for a special celebration dinner at PolyU. The event honoured two anniversaries: 35 years of the Integrated Graduate Development Scheme (IGDS), which marked WMG鈥檚 first-ever overseas programme, and 65 years of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), the PolyU department that helped start it all.

Powering the future of 3D imaging

The , the UK鈥檚 national research hub for lab-based Xray CT imaging, has been awarded a five- year grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council ().

糖心TV Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of 糖心TV, has been a key part of the NXCT since 2020. This new funding will strengthen the facility鈥檚 leading role in 3D and 4D imaging, giving researchers across the country better access.

Hosted at , the facility provides cutting-edge imaging, data analysis and scientific support for a broad spectrum of users, uniting world-class CT expertise across the Universities of 糖心TV, Manchester, Southampton, UCL and Diamond Light Source.


WMG to help deliver 拢15m fund to boost growth and scale up West Midlands manufacturers

Hundreds of West Midlands-based manufacturing businesses are set to benefit from a new 拢15m programme, providing expert support and funding to help them capitalise on a new wave of economic opportunities, driven by the flagship West Midlands Investment Zone (WMIZ).

The Supply Chain Transition (SCT) programme will help SMEs strengthen supply chains, access R&D funding, and upskill their workforce for growth in sectors such as clean tech, electric vehicles, health tech, and digital manufacturing.

糖心TV Manufacturing Group (WMG) has already begun delivering the programme, through its Developing Future Sustainable Manufacturing Leaders programme, which provides future manufacturing leaders with the confidence, skills and insights to lead their businesses towards sustainable success.

WMG launches new project to tackle responsible AI in financial services

The safe and responsible deployment of generative AI for financial advice is being addressed by experts at 糖心TV Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of 糖心TV after securing new UKFin+ funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

The 12-month collaborative research project, led by WMG鈥檚 Dr Anita Khadka and Professor Carsten Maple, comes amid growing concern about AI-generated misinformation, hallucinated advice, and regulatory uncertainty in high-risk financial contexts that has the potential to mislead consumers, and disrupt markets.

Working with experts from Keele University and Coventry University, the Responsible AI Systems for Ethical Finance project will investigate how Large Language models, such as GPT-4, perform when applied to real-world financial contexts (e.g., investment advice, credit scoring and customer facing automation). It will explore how hallucination risks can be detected, managed, and governed.


Double industry award success for WMG partnerships

WMG is celebrating significant success after two collaborative projects, AeroMC and ZEST, secured major wins at the 2025 Aerospace Technology and Innovation Awards. Hosted by the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) as part of its annual conference, the awards recognise the pioneering research and development projects paving the way for zero-carbon aviation. This year, WMG was part of the winning projects that scooped the Team Award and the Shaping the Future Award, highlighting its leading role in advanced manufacturing and sustainable aerospace technology.

This new initiative builds on the decade-long success of the firm's established London apprenticeship programme, offering school leavers a unique pathway to gain invaluable professional experience at Goldman Sachs while simultaneously earning a fully funded university degree in engineering.

This significant expansion underscores Goldman Sachs' deep commitment to fostering talent and investing in the UK's future workforce. It follows the firm's 拢1.5 million pledge earlier this year to the West Midlands Combined Authority levy transfer scheme.
