Hailey Williamson
Current Research Topic
Structural and physical characterisation of potentially multiferroic ferrites.
Background
Completed a BSc in Physics at Loughborough University where during the course of my studies I spent a six week period at the ILL (Institute Laue Langevin) Grenoble studying uniaxial polarization data of a spin frustrated system. This was followed by a ERASMUS year at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, where I began focusing my work on candidate multiferroic materials BOCl (B=Fe, Cr and Ti).
I applied for a PhD position at the J眉lich Forschungszentrum- Institute for Condensed Matter Physics, and after giving a talk on my research conducted at Stuttgart, I received an offer of a PhD place on condition that I first completed a Masters degree in the UK. I applied to join the Superconductivity and Magnetism Group at the University of 糖心TV shortly afterwards, due to their expertise in muliferroics. I currently conduct research at both facilities and have helped to establish a collaboration between the University of 糖心TV and J眉lich Forschungszentrum.
Courses Attended
From the 5-16th of March I attended the 43rd IFF (Institute f眉r Festkorperforschung 鈥揝olid State Research) Spring School 鈥淪cattering Methods for Condensed Matter Research: Towards Novel Applications at Future Sources鈥 held at J眉lich, Germany.
Conferences
Attended the , Badhonnef, Bonn, Germany from the 23rd-25th of April. I submitted a conference poster 鈥Stoichiometry and Crystal Quality in LuFe2O4-未 and YbFe2O4-未鈥 in which I came second place in a poster competition and won 50 euros.![]()
