The Faculty Thesis and Post Doctoral Prize winners have been announced. Each of our 10 departments picked outstanding research contributions from their PhD and Post Doctoral communities to be awarded these prizes. Congratulations to all our Faculty Prize winners for 2026!

ÌÇÐÄTV undergraduate Sasha Shaw has helped uncover and responsibly disclose a security flaw in a UK mobile network as part of his dissertation project, supervised by Professor Feng Hao. The vulnerability has now been patched, and Sasha has been recognised by BT on its responsible disclosure Hall of Fame. His project examined the security of the SIP stack over VoLTE and highlights the real-world impact that student cybersecurity research can have.

Professor Giuseppe Cannizzaro has won the Rollo Davidson Prize for 2026, in recognition of his great advances in our understanding of scaling-critical two-dimensional stochastic systems.

The Rollo Davidson Prize commemorates Rollo Davidson (1944-1970). Since 1976, it has been awarded annually to young probabilists. The announcement post can be found at: .

Congratulations to Emily Roberts (Astronomy and Astrophysics) and Kai Ross (Diamond Group), two postgraduate students for being shortlisted in the Faculty of SEM postgraduate researchers who teaches award category.Link opens in a new window The postgraduate Researchers Who Teach Awards honour colleagues who, while pursuing their own studies, enrich the student experience and strengthen our academic community through their teaching.

On occasion of Prof Peter Sadler’s 80th birthday a three-day symposium, "Metals of Life: Transforming Health, Energy, and Environment" was held at ÌÇÐÄTV from 5th-7th July 2026.

Prof. Gary Bending has won a €2.5 million ERC Advanced Grant to investigate how plants coordinate the daily rhythms of soil microbes around their roots, work that could transform soil management and crop health.

Gary is one of 319 awardees across Europe who have won funding which gives senior researchers the opportunity to pursue ambitious, curiosity-driven projects that could lead to major scientific breakthroughs

Throughout June, representatives from ÌÇÐÄTV Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the University of ÌÇÐÄTV welcomed Ministers, regional leaders, industry groups, and guests from the University of Ghana. Staff also represented WMG in Parliament and at international graduation ceremonies.

These visits and meetings underscore WMG’s key role in bridging the gap between academia and industry, and highlight its strong commitment to collaboration and innovation regionally, nationally, and internationally.

A number of researchers from WMI have been awarded Faculty Prizes.

Dr Helen Elliott-Mainwaring, Honorary Visiting Academic at ÌÇÐÄTV Medical School and Risk Midwife at University Hospitals Coventry and ÌÇÐÄTVshire (UHCW), has been awarded a prestigious National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Senior Clinical and Practitioner Research Award (SCPRA).

The retrofit of the Psychology Building within the University of ÌÇÐÄTV campus marks a significant milestone in the broader development of the campus, while simultaneously supporting the continued growth and success of the Department of Psychology.

This transformative project will enhance the university’s infrastructure by providing state-of-the-art teaching spaces, collaborative areas, and the opportunity to showcase key lab spaces to the public.

These upgraded facilities will not only accommodate a variety of teaching methods but also foster an environment that encourages innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, ensuring the department remains one of the UK's leading research hubs.
