Current Work

I am currently in the first (MSc) year of the MASDOC course, with a view to obtaining a PhD in applications of mathematics to chemistry. At this point in time, I am working on an MSc. dissertation (supervised by Dr. Stefan Adams) on a mathematical structure for a technique developed in physical chemistry called density functional theory. This project will aim to provide a basis in a classical setting (i.e. no quantum mechanics!), with a view to extending the framework as part of a PhD. thesis.

MA916 - Research Study Groups

PHASE I - PROBLEM FORMULATION - Brain Imaging

I have been working with & , with and as project leaders, on developing a problem related to fMRI brain scans.

We gave informal presentations to the cohort and members of staff on Monday 6th December 2010 on related topics - many thanks to Andrew Lam for providing the PDF files:

Andrew Lam - Brain Imaging & fMRI

Pravin Madhavan - ABC Method applied to Brain Imaging

Don Praveen Amarasinghe - Bayes Factors & Brain Imaging

On Friday 4th February, we were pleased to have finalised our project proposal. An updated version of the proposal can be found here.

On Monday 7th February, the three of us gave a talk to the cohort and various members of MASDOC staff about our proposal. The slides are given here.

PHASE II - PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION - Biomembranes

I have been working with Andrew Aylwin, Pravin Madhavan and Chris Pettitt, under the supervision of Prof. Charles Elliott and Dr. Björn Stinner, carrying out research based upon the project proposal of the phase I biomembranes RSG. We produced a report of our research, and gave a presentation (and created a poster) for the MASDOC Summer Retreat at in the Cotswolds (15-17 May 2011).
