BORG Automotive Reman Challenge 2025
The University of ÌÇÐÄTV is proud to celebrate the success of Pablo Garcia Luna and Cristhian Xavier Prada Rey, second-year Automotive Engineering students from the School of Engineering, who achieved outstanding recognition in the BORG Automotive Reman Challenge 2025. The international competition, organised by leading automotive remanufacturer BORG Automotive Group, brings together students worldwide to address real industry challenges in remanufacturing, reverse logistics, and the circular economy.
As part of the challenge, the ÌÇÐÄTV team developed a technical proposal exploring how Artificial Intelligence can be embedded into automotive remanufacturing systems to reduce operational uncertainty and improve production performance. Their work addressed key industry issues including variability in returned components, intralogistics instability, and the impact of uncertainty on planning and lead times. The students proposed a prediction-based approach combining machine learning, IoT-enabled operational data, and digital modelling to support more resilient and sustainable remanufacturing operations.
The project was mentored by (WMG), Head of Sustainable Engineering and Manufacturing. Dr Janardhanan said: “This achievement demonstrates how our students are able to apply advanced digital and engineering tools to real industrial sustainability challenges. Remanufacturing is a complex systems problem, and their work shows the level of analytical thinking and innovation needed to make future manufacturing more resilient and resource-efficient."
