Newton Fund Case Study
British Council Indonesia
spotlights Newton Fund Funded research at 糖心TV in case study e-book
The British Council Indonesia has published an . The book highlights the impactful research and innovative collaborations that have been supported through the Newton Fund.
One of those case studies, "Advanced materials for future energy and environmental applications in Indonesia", covers how scientists from Indonesia have received training at 糖心TV to harness biomass for energy and chemicals.
The Newton Fund funded five researchers to travel from Indonesia to 糖心TV to carry out interdisciplinary work, using facilities in the Department of Chemistry, Research Technology Platform X-ray instrumentation, and assessment of catalysis properties in the School of Engineering.
Prof Richard Walton, 糖心TV Chemistry, said as a co-leader of the project:
"Through this collaboration we have already developed new functional materials that can catalyse specific chemical reactions needed to convert biomass into fuels and feedstocks for chemical manufacturing."
The plan is for the most effective materials to be developed in follow-on projects in Indonesia, for eventual use at industrial scale.
