Ren茅 Westerholt (Assistant Professor)
I am a geo-information scientist working at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies, where I am teaching in the areas of urban analytics, spatial analysis, and GIS. I am further conducting research on spatial and place-based analysis methodologies, whereby my major interest is finding ways to integrate the social dimensions of everyday life better into quantitative analysis routines. My background is geoinformatics, in which I graduated with an M.Sc. degree from the Department of Mathematics and . I then obtained my Ph.D. in Geography from Heidelberg University, where I was working in the . My Ph.D. is about the spatial analysis of social media and related heterogeneous and spatially superimposed forms of data. Beyond my academic experience, I have interdisciplinary practical work experience including working with the , where I have been working as a software developer for several years in nature conservation projects. Further, I conducted several independent software projects with different external partners. I am professional member of the OGC, the Association for Geoinformatics, GeoIT and Navigation, and a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in London.
