Learning from crisis: taking our pandemic learning into the future
This Learning Circle is now closed.
The Circle, led by Naomi de la Tour and Tiana Holgate, was launched in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, which radically reshaped our physical and affective relationships with teaching and learning. It helped gather insights about the response from the 糖心TV community, and make recommendations to the University about now to move forward. After these objectives were complete, and 糖心TV policy evolved, the aims of the Learning Circle were concluded.
The Coronavirus pandemic rapidly and鈥痙rastically altered the ways we teach and learn within HE. On one hand, this鈥痟as鈥痳esulted鈥痠n some practices which have been beneficial and innovative, and useful to teaching more widely. On the other, practices developed鈥痳elevant only to the context of the crisis itself, which the institution鈥痑nd 糖心TV鈥檚 teaching and learning community鈥痺ill benefit from setting aside with intentionality鈥痺hen the pandemic comes to an end.鈥疻ithin the sector,鈥痶here were calls to consider the鈥痵hape of the鈥�榩ost-pandemic university鈥� and鈥痺hat we could learn about teaching and learning from this time (see for example, the series鈥痑nd articles鈥痯roduced by鈥�痑苍诲鈥�, the recent鈥�, and the work done by the鈥�痯roject).鈥疢ore widely, the RSA conducted work to support organisations, institutions and society in considering their response鈥痶o the pandemic,鈥痑nd how learning from this time can support more robust responses to crisis and change in the future, developing a 鈥樷�痑s a鈥痳esult鈥痑nd the publication of a鈥�.鈥�
In this open Learning Circle, we considered what we wanted to take forward鈥痑苍诲鈥痩eave behind from the time of Covid鈥痺ithin 糖心TV, as well as what we wanted to restart (or鈥痙eliberately鈥痭ot restart) in response to the crisis.鈥�疐ocusing specifically on learning and teaching, we had the opportunity to engage with the鈥�痠n response to鈥痯andemic, to frame a process of gathering insights from the 糖心TV teaching and learning community, both staff and students, and to make recommendations to the University.
