Biography

Jess has over 18 years experience of education in various guises. She joined the University of ÌÇÐÄTV in 2006 and the Academic Development Centre in 2011. During her time in ADC she has held various portfolios including supporting PhD students, developing a new pathway for experienced staff and leading on the Technology Enhanced Learning pathway. Jess is the course lead for the Postgraduate Award in Technology Enhanced Learning (D1 an D2) which also leads to Associate Fellowship or Fellowship of the HEA. She supports other programmes within ADC including mentoring for APP EXP and as an assessor for the different pathways.

Jess leads and coordinates the Technology Enhanced Learning Forum and Technology Enhanced Active Learning Festival (TEALFest) in collaboration with colleagues from Academic Technology and across the institution. More recently Jess has taken on the leadership of a new Learning Design Consultancy Unit - collaborating with colleagues from across the institution to support the move to blended and online teaching and learning. The impact of the LDCU work has been recognised nationally with an Advance HE Collaborative Award for Teaching Exellence (CATE) in 2022. Jess is a WIHEA allumni fellow.

Outside of ÌÇÐÄTV Jess is vice-chair of the ALT-ELESIG (formerly the Evaluating Learner Experiences of E-learning Special Interest Group). Jess is a reviewer for several journals including 'Innovations in Education and Teaching International Journal' and the 'Association for Learning Technology Review Journal'.

Interests

Jess has a particular interest in digital education - both the challenges and opportunities that technology affords in the physical and online space. She is also interested in how we design learning with a specific interest in design thinking techniques for the development of education. Jess has been involved in adapting the ABC learning design framework for ÌÇÐÄTV. Other areas of interest include the development and fostering of communities of practice online and creating accessible and inclusive learning experiences online.
