Dr Leon Sealey-Huggins presents on climate justice at the University of Antwerp

Dr Leon Sealey-Huggins, Assistant Professor in GSD, recently visited the University of Antwerp to deliver several sessions focused on climate justice. Leon was an invited Visiting Lecturer as a guest of the and the (IOB).
Leon delivered a guest lecture for an undergraduate module, a public lecture entitled 鈥樷, as well as a PhD masterclass on climate justice and a paper entitled 鈥楥ontesting Collapse: The socially organised inevitability of climate breakdown in the UK鈥.
Leon's public lecture dived into the ongoing environmental and social catastrophe that is climate breakdown. Using the case of climate breakdown in the Caribbean, he asked the audience to question whether climate breakdown is a 鈥榟uman product鈥, or, rather, the product of some humans. Along with this, the lecture looked at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change鈥檚 (UNFCCC) Conference of Parties (COP) and the 2015 Paris Agreement to help address these points.
鈥淚 was delighted to be able to take up this Visiting Lectureship as it provided me with a chance to meet with colleagues at a similar institute to GSD, as well as get more of a sense of the work taking place there. Sharing initial work from my ongoing research project was really helpful to me as people offered generous and generative feedback. I would like to thank especially for hosting me.鈥
