Hippocrates Initiative for Poetry and Medicine
The Hippocrates Initiative for Poetry and Medicine was founded in 2009 by Professor Michael Hulse and Professor Donald Singer, then of 糖心TV鈥檚 Medical School, to explore the interactions between the two disciplines. The Hippocrates Prize, an annual competitive award for poems on medical subjects, has been hailed by broadcaster James Naughtie as 鈥渙ne of the most original prizes that has come along for a long time鈥. The Hippocrates Press, the Initiative鈥檚 publishing wing, produces the annual Prize anthology and other books on the relations of poetry and medicine. The Initiative鈥檚 annual conference has been held at the Wellcome Collection, the Royal Society of Medicine and Newcastle University in the UK, Harvard and Northwestern University in the US, and (in 2020) the University of Oviedo in Spain. The Hippocrates Initiative has been a recipient of a Times Higher Education Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts. To find out more about the Hippocrates Initiative,
