The Act of Killing (directed by Central Saint Martins alumni Joshua Oppenheimer and Christine Cynn) was released in 2013 to wide critical acclaim internationally. However it has met with different responses in Indonesia, whose historical mass-killings it dramatically revisits. This will be among the topics explored by a seminar event, which will be an exciting opportunity for students and researchers to reflect on documentary film ethics, performance, and practices of re-enactment as cultural responses to regime-sponsored political violence.
