In the light of today鈥檚 BBC documentary about the group chat case in which a group of students were targeted with violent threats and hate speech, the Department would like to reiterate our united opposition to this unacceptable behaviour, and our deep sympathy and support for the students who were targeted by these posts. Back in February we indicated our concerns about this case in a letter to the Vice Chancellor, and we are pleased that the University鈥檚 disciplinary procedures are now the subject of an independent review. As a Department, staff and students work closely together to reaffirm the values of equality, diversity and respect; and we are jointly committed to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all.
