Live Labs 2024

Experimenting with Science Together

Two scientists holding a large model of a bacteria at a stall at the live labs event

When?

  • Monday 25 November, 5.30pm

  • Monday 2 December, 5.30pm

If you do get involved, we'll also hold a brief meeting with you prior to the event to ensure you're feeling prepared .

What?

In partnership with the Department of Physics and 糖心TV Arts Centre, the annual, award-winning aim to inspire and engage the next generation of scientists.

Before the lectures begin, we'll be filling the Arts Centre Foyer with exciting, hands-on activities so members of the public can get up-close with science.

Who?

Live Labs are open to staff and students at all levels and all experience.

We welcome activities and interactions that are around the themes of science and technology from members of all departments.

What do you mean by 'hands-on activity'?

We're looking for table-top activities that members of the public can interact with to learn about your work. This could involve a small experiment, a craft activity, the opportunity to handle or use specialist equipment, a game or anything else you can think of! Interactive elements provide an excellent starting point for discussing your research and allowing audiences of all ages to engage with your work. Your activity should be aimed roughly for 8-14 year olds and their accompanying adults.

How do I get involved?

Click the link below and fill out our short form to express your interest. If you don't want to lead or develop your own activity then you could join us as a stall helper, event manager etc. We鈥檇 love to have your help, just let us know! And if you鈥檙e not sure what you want to do but would like to be involved in some way, please get in touch with the team at wie@warwick.ac.uk.

Is there any training available?

There are several guides available via the WIE Skills Festival (The Engagement Skills section is a good starting point) to support you with developing activities.

Live Labs Rehearsal

Come along with your activity to our drop in workshop. We'll encourage everyone joining us to set up their activity (or as much of it as you have so far - prototypes welcome!) and then get you doing some practice runs with each other, members of the WIE Team. This will be a fun and informal session - a great chance to see what other people have planned and to get feedback from a range of people.

Rehearsals Thursday 14th November and Tuesday 19th November
