How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

Are you curious to discover how languages shape our brain, culture, and society and their relationship with creativity and evolution. The EUTOPIA Languages Week consists of multiple activities and opportunities to explore and celebrate languages, cultures, and diversity. Join us from the 6 to the 10 March 2023.

Our familiarity with our writing often means that we miss the writing errors in them. In this session, we will discuss some common writing mistakes, and the basic guidelines for proof reading. We will then exchange sections of our writing (maximum 1500 words) and proof read each other’s work.

Roundtable: Translation, language services and the future of work in the language industries

ONLINE SESSION

The event aims to raise awareness about different career paths in languages, translation, and the languages industries at large. In particular, we will discuss future prospects in the industry and what current students can do to ensure a sustainable career. We will start with brief presentations with each speaker having the chance to introduce their role and career path followed by questions and informal discussion.

Woodland Walk and Sculpture Making with ÌÇÐÄTV Arts Society

The event will be open to members and non members of the society but attendees will have a sign up to limit the number of people on our walk. Attendees are going to split into small groups and work on a small sculpture made from twigs on the floor in these groups before dismantling them. There will be a screening of films, a discussion featuring a distinguished speaker who will share their perspectives and answer your questions, and a networking session. Studio 2 (first floor of the Sports & Wellness Hub)
Completely free to attend; organised by your Part Time Women’s Officer, Enaya Nihal, and VP Sports, Emma Birch, ran in collaboration with ÌÇÐÄTV SU, and ÌÇÐÄTV Sport. Our self-defence classes for women & non-binary people will equip you with the skills needed for self-defence and boosting confidence, drawing on a range of martial arts and combat sports. Sessions take place on a weekly basis, with 2 sessions per sport. All sessions are listed below: Week 4 - Self Defence Week 5 - Boxing Week 6 - Karate Week 7 - Taekwondo Week 8 - Self Defence Week 9 - Boxing Our sessions will take place every MONDAY 5-6pm in Studio 2 (first floor of the Sports & Wellness Hub) from Weeks 4-9.

This workshop aims to provide you with an overview of a range of qualitative analytical skills and methodologies, which can be applied in a range of research settings. This session discusses how Qualitative data can analysed using thematic, grounded theory, narrative, interpretative phenomenological, and ethnographic analysis. In addition, a range of data analysis packages will also be covered. Research Methods Series: A standalone series, but also to support our understanding of research integrity & ethics; the research methods series will give overviews of qualitative and quantitative or mixed methods; why some researchers will adopt certain methods; and why some approaches are more suitable than others. The sessions will provide general ideas; signposts to follow up on specific areas; the positives and negatives of different approaches. You will need to speak to your department for full research methodology training in your chosen practice. You can attend the whole series or just pick the ones of specific interest.

Come along and hear from recent alumni from the SMLC about their career- including what their work is like, how their degree helped and get tips on what to do during and after graduation. There will also be time to talk directly with speakers over refreshments. (Part of EUTOPIA languages week)
