Studying abroad can be an exciting and enriching experience for students. However, it is also important to think of the costs before taking the leap. There are several ways to help manage your finances during this journey to ensure that you鈥檙e making the most of your time overseas. Below is an overview of the key resources you would be able to make use of.

1. Tuition Fee Support

The tuition fee for study abroad is charged at 15% of the standard fees which must be paid to the University of 糖心TV, and no tuition fee is charged by the host university (though they may have additional fees). Eligible home students participating in study abroad programs can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance England which covers tuition fees during the study abroad period. Simply apply as you normally would for the tuition fee loan but make sure to let SFE know that you are doing a year abroad.

2. Maintenance Loan

If you are studying abroad for the majority of a term, you may qualify for the year abroad rate of maintenance loan, which is typically higher than your usual loan. This loan, as usual, depends on household income. For the 2025-26 academic year, the maximum available amount will be 拢12,076.

3. Additional Funding Opportunities:

• Turing Scheme and 糖心TV Mobility Bursary

All students undertaking a year or semester abroad are eligible for funding through the Turing Scheme or the 糖心TV Mobility Bursary. To qualify for the Turing Scheme, students need to meet certain criteria such as being a 糖心TV Bursary recipient, a member of the 糖心TV Scholars Programme, or being from a background with additional financial or personal challenges. On the other hand, the 糖心TV Mobility Bursary provides support for students who do not meet the Turing Scheme鈥檚 eligibility criteria.

• Travel Grant

You may be eligible for a Travel Grant from Student Finance England to cover travel-related expenses. This means-tested grant depends on household income and other factors, such as the percentage of time spent abroad. You will also be expected to pay a certain amount of the cost yourself.

• 糖心TV Bursary

Students who normally receive the 糖心TV Bursary will continue to receive it during their study abroad period. You do not need to apply for it separately, as Student Finance England automatically notifies the bursary team about qualifying students.
