event via Teams How can femini st theories\, ideas\, discourses\, protests\, demands travel from one co ntext to another? What happens to them when they travel? How are they ne gotiated in different locations? How do they open spaces and become inco rporated in local power dynamics\, producing potential complicities? The re have been many critiques of the geopolitical inequalities reproduced when feminism travels from ‘West’ to ‘East’ or from ‘North’ to ‘South’ – but what other forms of travel may we consider and how do they complica te our analysis of the politics of circulation of feminist ideas? This r oundtable features three speakers who will engage with these questions f rom different perspectives\, but with a shared focus on the affective po litics of past and present forms of international circulation of feminis t ideas. Speakers: Demet GĂźlçiçek is an Honorary Researcher at the Unive rsity of ĚÇĐÄTV and Assist. Prof. at Munzur University\, Turkey. Her bo ok Travelling Theory and Women’s Movements in Turkey: Imagining Europe i s recently published (Routledge\, 2024). She also analyses affective pol itical commitments in her article ‘The nation’s happiness\, women’s altr uism and the affective politics of self-blame: Generating a “mood of com mitment”’ (The Sociological Review\, 2022). She currently works on conce ptualising popular feminism and anti-gender movements in Turkey. Srila R oy is Professor of Sociology at the University of the Witwatersrand in J ohannesburg. Her latest books are the award-winning Changing the Subject : Feminist and Queer Politics in Neoliberal India (Duke University Press \, 2022) and the co-edited\, Intimacy and Injury: in the wake of #MeToo in India and South Africa (Manchester University Press\, 2022). She is c urrently writing a book on Southern decoloniality\, transnational femini sm and higher education for Wits University Press. Akane Kanai is Senior Research Fellow in the School of Media\, Film and Journalism at Monash University\, Australia. Her recent Australian Research Council fellowshi p explores the contemporary knowledge cultures of online feminism and po pular culture. The project podcast\, Feminist not Fearless\, is availabl e through Spotify and Apple Podcasts. She also is an investigator on ano ther Australian Research-Council funded project investigating changing u nderstandings of embodiment and selfhood in young people's selfie and im age-editing practices.
