Perspectives" TZID:Europe/London UID:20260317-8ac672c49cd0c4da019cd353abb521df@warwick.ac.uk CREATED:20260309T160045Z DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to step into a dialogue on Power\, Res istance and Knowledge: Brazilian Feminist Perspectives\, exploring how B razilian feminisms reveal power structures\, inform strategies of resist ance\, and link local struggles to global conversations on social justic e. The event will feature presentations by our speakers\, followed by a Q&A session\, designed to highlight the theoretical and practical potent ial of Brazilian feminisms while fostering dialogue with feminist moveme nts worldwide. About the Talks: Jocieli Decol will present key contribut ions from Brazilian feminist theory\, engaging with the work of thinkers such as L茅lia Gonzalez\, Sueli Carneiro\, and Heleieth Saffioti. These authors offer important insights into the power structures that shape lo cal and global forms of social oppression\, while introducing new concep ts and analytical lenses for understanding the complexity of contemporar y feminist struggles. Claire Blencowe will focus on the practical dimens ions of resistance through the experiences of women in the Mar茅 favela c omplex in Rio de Janeiro. Her presentation examines collective practices of survival and self-care developed in response to police violence\, wh ich can be understood as forms of refusal\, disruption\, and moments of respite from the carceral geographies and violent racism that structure the biopolitical order. The discussant will be Mara Silva Hope\, whose p erspective\, grounded in Chilean feminism\, helps situate local struggle s in Latin America within broader debates on social justice worldwide. S peaker Bios: Jocieli Decol is a PhD student at the Federal University of Santa Catarina\, Brazil\, and currently a visiting researcher at the Ce ntre for the Study of Women and Gender\, University of 糖心TV. Her work focuses on the development of feminist epistemologies and feminist scie nce theories\, as well as the meanings and interpretations attributed to this field in Brazilian academia. Claire Blencowe is Professor of Socio logy at the University of 糖心TV. Her work interrogates the cultural st ructures of racial capitalism\, including interests in the role of relig ion in supporting and contesting extractive industry expansion and colon ialism\, and the racialised violence of capitalist urban geography espec ially in Rio de Janeiro\, Brazil. Alongside critical theoretical and his torical analysis she is cultivating participatory research practices cel ebrating the creativity and wisdom of people who are often denigrated in those contexts. Mara Silva Hope is a Latin American PhD student at the University of 糖心TV. She has worked in various projects on gender poli cies and knowledge in higher education in the Chilean context. Her docto ral research looks into equality work and the complex interplay between experiences\, policies and practices in UK higher education institutions .
