The second is the rise of Generative AI\, in which we are now immersed. While each has unique challenges\, their greatest effect w as to expose the generally poor state of assessment and our vulnerabilit y to issues that we should have confronted many years ago. The aim of th is presentation is to look at the assessment challenges we need to face now and what we can do about them. Examples include assessing in ways th at do not allow us to know what a student can do\, over-assessing some o utcomes\, ignoring others\, and pretending we can assess more accurately than is possible.
