population that is geomagnetically trapped in near-Earth space - th e inner magnetosphere. This population is very challenging to model\, wi th dynamics evolving on - and determined by - spatial and temporal scale s that range from milliseconds to days\, and gyroradii to Earth radii. A side from being a very interesting and challenging physics problem\, acc urate modelling and prediction is important for safeguarding the operati onal satellites in orbit that underpin modern society. There is therefor e a growing interest in operational space weather forecasts\, such as th ose based on the model developed at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS-RB M)\, and now being incorporated into the UK MET Office Space Weather sui te. ā€˜Non-adiabatic’ transport and acceleration of radiation belt particl es is largely determined by resonant interactions with electromagnetic w aves. Existing radiation belt modelling overwhelmingly relies upon 'quas ilinear' techniques that essentially treat electromagnetic waves as havi ng very small amplitudes. However\, recent satellite datasets have demon strated the prevalence of large amplitude (aka 'nonlinear’) electromagne tic waves. These effects have not yet been quantified or implemented on operational modelling scales. Understanding the impact of nonlinear wave s on radiation belt particle populations is therefore an important quest ion - and we hope to try and find some answers!
