 e: 11 Aug 20 Full text: The Royal Academy of Engineering\, funded by the
  National Productivity Investment Fund\, invites applications for its ch
 air in emerging technologies award. This provides researchers with long-
 term support\, enabling them to lead in developing emerging technology a
 reas with high potential to deliver economic and social benefit to the U
 K. The aim is to enable technologies to advance to application in a stra
 tegic manner through sustained focus. Applicants are encouraged to make 
 a case for disruptive innovation in well established areas or overlooked
  fields as well as new emerging technologies. Evidence of proof of conce
 pt should already be established. The appointed chair will: •lead major 
 research\, translation and innovation programmes around key emerging tec
 hnologies\; •build centres of excellence in strategically important tech
 nologies\, supporting their commercialisation and adoption\; •build and 
 maintain a strong network of industrial and other partners to facilitate
  technology commercialisation and the creation of significant UK economi
 c and social benefit. Researchers who have not been awarded a professori
 al title but have demonstrated achievements which strongly support their
  promotion may apply. They may be academics from across a broad range of
  engineering and technology areas. Awards can only be held at universiti
 es\, or jointly between a university and a national or independent organ
 isation\, based in the UK. Applications from high-calibre researchers cu
 rrently based outside the UK are welcome. Applications must include a le
 tter of support from a dean\, pro-vice chancellor for research or someon
 e in a similar position. Up to eight awards are available with a value o
 f £2.78 million each over ten years to cover employment and research cos
