TZID:Europe/London UID:20200917-8a1785d7747be475017496b33a910205@warwick.ac.uk CREATED:20200916T113602Z DESCRIPTION:This panel will explore historically rooted contemporary prob lems of systemic racism\, and consider possibilities for solutions. Abou t this Event On 25 May 2020\, the tragic and violent death of George Flo yd at the hands of Derek Chauvin\, a white police officer\, in Minneapol is\, USA\, triggered protests against police brutality and racial injust ice\, surging far beyond the national borders of the USA. Led by the Bla ck Lives Matter movement\, protests spanning continents and interpenetra ting law and order\, sports\, schools\, industry\, academia\, entertainm ent\, and government\, have revealed the profound depths of systemic rac ism\, injustice\, colonialism\, and oppression upon which many establish ed socio-political and economic systems are built and continue to functi on. Moreover\, academic approaches to the study of politics and internat ional affairs have also come under scrutiny for their racialized assumpt ions and biases.
