BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTAMP:20260622T061048Z DTSTART;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20190820T160000 DTEND;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20190820T160100 SUMMARY:EPSRC - Tackling global development challenges through physical s ciences research TZID:Europe/London UID:20190820-8a1785d76b22442e016b276719630cdf@warwick.ac.uk CREATED:20190605T112956Z DESCRIPTION:(Please note: The opening date is estimated at this stage. Wh en details of the call have been finalised it will be updated to the act ual date.) The EPSRC Physical Sciences Theme is highlighting this future call. The Theme will be inviting applications aimed at supporting an in ternationally leading programme of physical sciences research\, to tackl e the challenges faced by developing countries. Research projects will b e welcomed from across the Physical Sciences Theme ļƒā€™s remit\, which dem onstrate a contribution to the global effort to address the UN Sustainab le Development Goals  (SDGs). Each of the SDGs has a list of targets th at may prove instructive in helping applicants to identify where they mi ght contribute to one or more of the goals. Appropriate collaborators in one or more lower middle income\, low income or least developed countri es on the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) list (PDF) ļ‚Ž of the Org anisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will be a mand atory requirement for proposals submitted through this call. These colla borators may be academic researchers and/or direct beneficiaries of the research outcomes. Overseas Co-Investigators must be researchers based i n research organisations in lower middle income\, low income or least de veloped countries on the DAC list of the OECD\, excluding upper-middle i ncome countries. We will also support costs associated with research con ducted in these countries\, for example staff\, consumables and field wo rk. Collaborators from upper-middle income countries on the DAC list of the OECD may be included on the proposal as Project Partners\, but EPSRC will not contribute to their associated costs. The call will be funded through EPSRC’s Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) ļ‚Ž allocation\, wi th support from the Physical Sciences Theme. A budget of Ā£4 million will be available to support 5-10 research projects\, which will have a fixe d start date of 01 April 2020 and may be up to 24 months in duration. Th e start point for any project funded via this call must be novel physica l sciences research. That research must underpin the majority of the sub sequent activities planned for completion during the project. There will be scope in this call for those subsequent activities to span into EPSR C’s wider remit (e.g. the realm of energy\, engineering\, healthcare tec hnologies etc.)\, or beyond (e.g. into the remit of any other of the UKR I Councils or Innovate UK)\, in order to best serve the Official Develop ment Assistance (ODA) aims of this call. When preparing their proposal\, factors that applicants should consider include: The unmet need identi fied by partners in the lower middle income\, low income or least develo ped country(ies) End-user participation in research\, design\, achievin g acceptance and adoption Ethics and responsible innovation Research c apacity building in the partner country(ies) and the UK. Equitable part nership Research should be undertaken with the partner country(ies) iden tified to ensure that it benefits the most vulnerable people in those co untries and that the outcome is sustainable\; the benefit does not end w ith the conclusion of the proposed research. Proposals must be compliant with ODA guidelines\; evidence of ODA compliance will be required as pa rt of your application.
