DESCRIPTION:Transatlantic relations are experiencing considerable debate 
 about their possible future(s) in the light of domestic political and ec
 onomic change\, the likelihood of ‘Brexit’\, the challenge of ‘Trumpism’
  and ‘Putinism’\, and continuing turbulence in the broader regional and 
 global arenas. This round table event is designed to explore a range of 
 scenarios for transatlantic relations in key areas of policy\, along wit
 h their implications both for the EU and the US and for the future of re
 gional and world order. Over at least the past sixty years\, transatlant
 ic relations have experienced many processes of change and there has bee
 n a number of ‘transatlantic crises’. In the 1960s\, there was the stand
 -off between Kennedy and de Gaulle about the nature of the ‘transatlanti
 c community’\; in the 1970s the conflicts centred on the Vietnam War\, t
 he Middle East and international economic crisis\; in the 1980s issues o
 f East-West relations and nuclear weapons predominated\; and in the 1990
 s\, the tensions over conflict in the Balkans and over the management of
  the post-Cold War world were central. The last two decades have also se
 en tensions over the Middle East\, over Ukraine and over the management 
 of the global political economy and the global environment in the wake o
 f the international financial crisis\, as well as more recent major (but
  unsuccessful) efforts to upgrade the EU-US relationship through agreeme
 nts such as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). E
 ach of these periods of change and crisis has demonstrated the ways in w
 hich questions of economic competition and convergence and issues of sec
 urity are linked with domestic politics on both sides of the Atlantic an
 d with the shifting nature of power in the global arena more generally. 
 The past two years\, with the impact of the Trump Administration in the 
 US\, Brexit in the EU and the lingering effects of economic crisis have 
 been no exception to the rule. The question ‘what type of change and wha
 t type of crisis?’ in transatlantic relations persists. In this round ta
 ble\, we focus on both the overall discussion about the future of transa
 tlantic relations and its links to world order\, and on a number of key 
 policy areas – specifically\, the impact of Brexit\, the nature of trans
 atlantic security relations\, and trade relations. Speakers will present
  a range of views and assess a number of scenarios\, with the aim of gen
