DESCRIPTION:Postgraduate and Early-Career Scholar Workshop: "Rethinking ā€œ
 The Fieldā€: The Politics of Entering\, Leaving\, and Doing Justice Along
 side Marginalized Populations through Fieldwork"\, with Dr Z Nicolazzo C
 onceptions of ā€˜the fieldā€™ for qualitative researchers are both ambiguous
  and contested. During this workshop\, Dr Nicolazzo will work alongside 
 participants to explore the tensions between the practical dimensions of
  doing research as a practice of creating knowledge\, and the affective 
 dimensions of research\, which stem from critical qualitative researcher
 s' intrinsic values for relation\, connection\, friendship\, love\, advo
 cacy\, and equity. Dr Nicolazzo will share insights ze gleaned from hir 
 18-month critical collaborative ethnographic study with trans* universit
 y students\, and will engage workshop participants in thinking about how
  they as researchers make sense of\, interact within\, and negotiate ā€˜en
 teringā€™ and ā€˜leavingā€™ the ā€˜fieldā€™\, especially in relation to researchin
 g alongside marginalized populations. Participants will work with Dr Nic
 olazzo to think through their own research in an attempt to address some
  of the challenges that surface throughout the session. This session is 
 open to all MA and PhD students and early career scholars (across all di
 sciplines\, and including colleagues from other universities). Attendanc
 e is free and lunch is provided\, but you must register in advance here.
  The workshop will take place from 10.30 to 12.30\, and lunch will be se
 rved from 12.30. You are also very welcome to stay on for the Centre for
  the Study of Women and Gender "(Not Very Far) Away Day"\, which will ta

 on@warwick.ac.uk). Biographical information: Dr. Z Nicolazzo is Assistan
 t Professor in the Adult and Higher Education programme and a faculty as
 sociate in the Center for the Study of Women\, Gender\, and Sexuality\, 
 at Northern Illinois University\, US. Z gained hir PhD in Student Affair
 s in Higher Education\, with a graduate certificate in Womenā€™s\, Gender\
 , and Sexuality Studies\, from Miami University in 2015\, before taking 
 up the post at NIU. Zā€™s research agenda is focused on mapping gender acr
 oss higher education contexts\, with particular attention to trans* stud
 ents\, as well as the intersections of race\, gender\, sexuality\, and d
 isability. Zā€™s book\, Trans* in College: Transgender Studentsā€™ Strategie
 s for Navigating Campus Life and the Institutional Politics of Inclusion
