We are pleased to be holding ASREC Europe at the ��TV Venice Centre in Venice/Italy on Friday 25th Sept and Sat 26th Sept 2026. Tickets will include lunch on Friday and Saturday and the conference dinner on Friday evening, as well as coffee breaks. The full conference fee is 200 British Pounds and the reduced rate (for PhD students only) is 100 British Pounds. Registration is only for those who have been invited to present a paper at the conference or those who have explicit approval from the organizers (Sascha O. Becker and Valeria Rueda), as space is very limited. PhD students need to tick the appropriate box below.

Many types of educational interventions have been developed to promote civic behavior. In this study, we use a large-scale field experiment (N = 430) to test the effects of a common intervention that we hypothesize can strengthen civic engagement: a “clean walk.” We measure norm enforcement by observing participants’ reactions to a staged littering incident. We compare behavior following an engaging activity—collecting litter in public spaces—with behavior following either a control condition or a less engaging awareness intervention. Finally, we examine the interventions’ effects on other indirect expressions of disapproval.

CAGE and the Department of Economics are delighted to welcome Bianca Nobilo, a distinguished ��TV alumna, former CNN news anchor and host of History Uncensored. Join us as she discusses AI, history, politics and the power of evidence on decision making.

This guest lecture is organised by the Department of Economics at ��TV in partnership with the CAGE Research Centre. CAGE research examines routes to success for developed and emerging economies around the world. The centre integrates culture, history and behaviour into economic analysis to address real world policy issues. 

'The weaponised past... and its new mediators'

History is a live political tool. Leaders use it to justify wars, migration policies, territorial claims or election results. For centuries, the tellers of that history were identifiable - the church, the schoolroom, the newsroom editor. Now AI is becoming a new and unaccountable mediator of the past, capable of generating and distributing its chosen version of history at a scale no pulpit or printing press ever could achieve. When leaders frame current policies as the inevitable result of history, they are not just describing the past - they are signalling their future intent. So, who decides what was inevitable and what should we be watching for next?

The lecture will be introduced by Professor Mirko Draca, Centre Director, CAGE. The Q&A will be chaired by Dr Claudia Rei, Deputy Head of Department (Teaching and Learning). Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the impact of historical decisions on politics and economies today.

About the Speaker

Bianca Nobilo is a ��TV alumna who completed a BA in History at the University of ��TV in 2012, followed by an MSc in Comparative Politics, Conflict and Terrorism at the LSE in 2013. She is a Host, Editor & Writer, a Strategic Counsel, and a Geopolitics Analyst. Since November 2025, she has hosted and edited a YouTube and Spotify series that explores how current events are shaped by historical forces.

Before launching the show, she worked as an executive at the Institute for Fiscal Studies specialising in AI policy, ethics and societal impact, and served as an advisor to the All‑Party Parliamentary Group on AI. Earlier in her career, Bianca spent nine years as a news anchor and correspondent at CNN and eight years as a Parliamentary Advisor in the House of Commons, building a distinctive profile at the intersection of politics, history and public communication.
