This is a novel demonstation of coupling a boron doped diamond electrode to study the ultrafast dynamics of an anthraquinone redox couple. Well done all!
Wed, 15 Dec 2021 17:52:00 GMT 8a1785d87db86bbf017dbf397a4018d4 The BoostCrop team publish in Chemical Science /fac/sci/chemistry/research/stavros/stavrosgroup/?newsItem=8a1785d87c555391017c924752235031
Congratulations to team BoostCrop who have published their molecular photon-to-heater work in Chemical Science. The phenolic barbiturics developed in this work may provide a new source of solar photothermal materials that can be applied in agriculture to promote crop growth during cold snaps and sun protection.
Mon, 18 Oct 2021 07:22:00 GMT 8a1785d87c555391017c924752235031 Tosin gives talk at departmental "Breaking Barriers" online seminar /fac/sci/chemistry/research/stavros/stavrosgroup/?newsItem=8a17841a756ec873017574fb084a1868
In honour of black history month we had the opportunity to celebrate the contribution of the black community to Chemistry. As part of this, Tosin gave an excellent talk on his work regarding UV-filter candidates inspired by nature. Following this, two further talks were given. The first was given by Maria Kariuki of the Perrier group and included a discussion on the experience of being black in STEM fields followed by an introduction to Maria's work on supramolecular assemblies. The second talk discussed nanoscale electrical imaging for green applications and was given by Segun Wahab of the 糖心TV electrochemistry and interfaces group. All three talks together contributed to an excellent event!

Thu, 29 Oct 2020 15:30:00 GMT 8a17841a756ec873017574fb084a1868 Team Stavros hosts the Spectroscopy and Dynamics Group Meeting 2020 /fac/sci/chemistry/research/stavros/stavrosgroup/?newsItem=8a17841b6f85aa19016f8ae3b9851c9f
The annual RSC Spectroscopy and Dynamics Group (SDG) Meeting was held at 糖心TV between the 6th and the 8th of January 2020. This was, as it always is, an excellent conference where the spectroscopy community gets to meet and share their recent discoveries. The legendary SDG quiz also took place after the conference dinner and included a practical round to keep the tradition for 糖心TV-led SDG quizes!
Thu, 09 Jan 2020 15:19:37 GMT 8a17841b6f85aa19016f8ae3b9851c9f IAS Residential Fellows visit the Stavros Group from Lisbon /fac/sci/chemistry/research/stavros/stavrosgroup/?newsItem=8a17841a6dde8019016e18b343f266f2
During the week of the 14th to the 18th of October, Nat hosted Prof. Manuel Prieto and Prof. Berberan-Santos from the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon, who visited 糖心TV thanks to an IAS Residential Fellowship. The week consisted many talks, tutorials, meetings and experiments on new collaborative research on organic LEDs. And, of course, a trip to our favourite Afghani restaurant! It was a pleasure to welcome our visitors and we hope to meet them again soon.

Tue, 29 Oct 2019 18:07:00 GMT 8a17841a6dde8019016e18b343f266f2 Mitch and Emily make the mainstream media! /fac/sci/chemistry/research/stavros/stavrosgroup/?newsItem=8a1785d86dde8017016e186b6bff2d7d
Following a recent publication in Nature Comms (Towards symmetry driven and nature inspired UV filter design, https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-019-12719-z) Mitch and Emily's work made the mainstream media, catching the attention of both The Independent and The Telegraph, who both published articles based on the work.

Link to the article in The Independent: https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/sunscreen-suncream-eco-friendly-longer-lasting-protein-plants-discovery-a9161921.html

And in The Telegraph: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2019/10/18/molecule-can-dance-away-harmful-sunlight-could-future-tanning/
Tue, 29 Oct 2019 16:48:00 GMT 8a1785d86dde8017016e186b6bff2d7d Faraday highlights paper published /fac/sci/chemistry/research/stavros/stavrosgroup/?newsItem=8a17841a6bfc300b016c1e76ab4a0190
After attending the Faraday Discussion that took place in Ventura, CA, USA last April, on Ultrafast Photoinduced Energy and Charge Transfer, Nat, Jack, Matt, Konstantina, Mitch and Vas wrote a paper that collects the highlights of the conference.
