ANNUAL RETREAT 2018 - LAKE DISTRICT

On the 1st of May 2018, all members of the MathSys Centre travelled to the Lake District for the annual retreat. We spent four great days in the YHA Hawkshead with beautiful views, inspirational talks and nice company.

This year marked the tenth intake of students to the two doctoral training centres associated to the ��TV Centre for Complexity Science. To mark the milestone, a special event was held at The Shard in London, organised by Colm Connaughton and Martine Barons.

Winter Graduation 2018

Congratulations to our third MathSys cohort who graduated from their Masters programme on the of 17th January 2018. The Winter Graduation Ceremony also saw Gwilym Enstone, Edward Hill and Diana Khoromskaia awarded their PhDs. In addition to the official University proceedings, there was also a congratulatory lunch celebration in the Centre where family, friends and staff joined the students in celebrating their success.

After working at the University of ��TV for 3 years, Sam Johnson is leaving the Complexity Centre to take up a permanent position at the University of Birmingham. We wish him the best of luck at his new position! Here is his reflection on his time at the Centre.

Congratulations to our new PhD graduates: Dr Tom Rafferty, Dr Michael Maitland, Dr Peter Dawson, Dr Bernd Taschler, Dr Federico Botta and Dr Yuri Lifanov! Most of them have started work either as postdocs or in the commercial sector and we wish them all the best in their careers!

Postgraduate Research Showcase 2017

Congratulations to Sophie Meakin for winning the Faculty of Science prize and best overall poster prize, and to Cameron Lack for winning the runner-up prize at the poster competition of the Postgraduate Research Showcase 2017, University of ��TV. Tim Pollington was a finalist in the Three Minute Thesis competition talking about visceral leishmaniasis. Well done to all of them!
