Conference in Brussels about Belarus

On 1 December, WUB Hub, along with several partners, organised the conference 'Belarus: A Part Of or Apart From Europe's Security'. The event was held at the Mission of Democratic Belarus in Brussels and involved participants from Belarus and experts on the country.

Dr Paul Hansbury and Dr Tatsiana Chulitskaya take part in ECPR Annual Conference

Dr Paul Hansbury and Dr Tatsiana Chulitskaya (WUB Hub associate researcher) took part in the European Consortium for Political Research's (ECPR) 2025 Annual Conference, which convened in Thessaloniki, Greece from 26-29 August. Dr Chulitskaya chaired a panel titled 'Democratic Norms in Authoritarian Contexts: Instruments of Legitimation of Resistance?', for which Dr Hansbury acted as discussant. The panel included the presentation of two papers for which Dr Chulitskaya is co-author, as well as other papers on the theme.

New blog post: The folly of Ukraine peace talks

In a new article on the WUB Hub blog, IGSD Research Fellow Anastasiia Kudlenko argues that US president Donald Trump's promotion of peace talks has not only failed to bring peace to Ukraine, it has in fact undermined Ukraine's defence in several ways. Trump's goal is not so much peace as the normalisation of US relations with Russia, she says, and points to policies that will help to strengthen Ukraine's resilience. Read her analysis here.

The Unbroken Generation: Book launch in London

The book The Unbroken Generation: Youth Voices of Belarus 2020, a collection of student essays describing their experiences of being imprisoned during Belarus's political crisis, was presented at the annual 'Belarusian Studies in the 21st Century' in London. The volume is edited by Professors Victor Shadurski and Elena Korosteleva. It has been published by Skaryna Press, with support from the ��TV Ukraine-Belarus Hub.

Film screening: People of Steel

WUB Hub organised a screening of the documentary film People of Steel. Directed and produced by Ukrainian musician Serhiy Fomenko, the film documents the defence of Mariupol following Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
