Below I'm forwarding a call for people interested in organizing events for the Coventry City of Culture. There are a number of possibilities listed and potentially funding for involvement. See if any of these strike your fancy.

Hello all,

Hope you’re well and have had / are having a good summer.

I’ve been approached by the organisers of the City of Culture opening event to see if we can contribute to their preparations.

The event itself will be on a truly massive scale – they’re looking for over 10,000 contributions towards a giant spectacle including processions, installations, projections and more across the City and around the ring road. (You can get a sense of some of their early planning in the attached PPT).

The key themes they are looking at are Invention, Sustainability and Peace – all things that the University can contribute to.

Obviously this is a huge opportunity for the University to be involved across lots of different aspects, including: -

Running making workshops in the run up to the
Working with artists to produce large scale artworks, floats, installations etc. (might be good student projects?)
Working with artists on projections across the city
Taking part in the event itself
Showcasing innovative technology – autonomous pods, electric bikes, VR, cars etc
Performances and contributions from student societies, drama, music, sports (cycling!) etc.
…and anything else you can think of!

I’m hoping that you will be happy for me to put you in touch with the event producers to discuss how we can be involved. I am currently putting together a list of people who are happy to be contacted to find out more – please just reply to this email saying that you would like to be involved and feel free to include any initial ideas or contributions you might have.
