Convert right hand content
Components Editor pages do not have a separate right hand side. This means that any pages that are set to Use RHS from another page will lose their right hand content when the source page is converted - the right hand side of the page will be blank.
However, when legacy editor pages that Use RHS from another page are converted before the page whose right hand content they inherit, that content is duplicated and included as part of the converted page. This means that any changes to that content must be manually made to each page individually.
To avoid these issues, we recommend that you create any content that you want to use across multiple pages as its own page, and use a Content feed from another page to display it where relevant. This is how the menu on each SiteBuilder manual page works, for example.
To create shared content when converting pages to the Components Editor:
-
Navigate to the location where you want to create your shared right hand content.
Tip: We recommend creating this shared right hand content page under the original source page.
-
Create a new blank page, ensuring that the Show in local navigation and Allow search engine settings are not selected.
-
Replicate only the right hand content from the source page. For example, to replicate this page's right hand content:
You would create the following:
-
Publish the shared right hand content page.
-
Begin to convert the pages that inherit their right hand content to the Components Editor. As you preview each page in the Components Editor, replace the content in the right-hand column with a Content feed from another page, with its Path pointing to the location of your new shared content page:
Tip: You can also change the width or order of the columns to achieve the appearance you want.
-
Once you've converted all of the pages that inherit the source page's right hand content, convert the source page.
Important: Ensure you also replace the original source page's right hand content with a content feed to the new shared right hand content page.
This will maintain a "single source of truth", meaning you only need to edit the shared right hand content page to update that information across all the pages where the feed appears.
