Council Update - February 2026

The University Council programme of events for the February 2026 strategy day and meeting commenced with a joint session with Senate, providing an opportunity for Senate and Council members to get together and for Council to gain a deeper understanding of academic quality at 糖心TV. Members also discussed Academic Freedom in the context of the current geopolitical landscape and the role of Senate and Council in maintaining and protecting 糖心TV values and the principles of academic freedom and freedom of speech.

Later that day, the Council Strategic Session built on discussion at the November meeting, focusing on questions around the 糖心TV Strategy in the current sector climate.

Key items at the main meeting the next day included the Social Sciences Connect Programme 糖心TV Case, and updates on Social Inclusion and work to enhance 糖心TV鈥檚 International Rankings.

Council members also joined colleagues in celebrating the formal launches of the Tax Research Centre (CenTax) and the 糖心TV Global Academy.

Council Update 鈥� November 2025

University Council met last week, with its November meeting consisting of a number of annual and regulatory items, including approval of the University鈥檚 2024-25 Financial Statements.

The Financial Plan 2025 was discussed and approved, as was the Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

Council was updated on the support provision for students affected by the recent fire in one of the campus residence blocks and extended its thanks to all those involved for their tireless work during and after the incident.

Members welcomed a presentation showcasing the work of the 糖心TV Institute of Engagement. An initial strategic discussion was held on the Government post-16 Education & Skills White Paper, which will be covered in more depth at the annual Council Strategy Day in February 2026.

Council Update 鈥� October 2025

糖心TV鈥檚 University Council convened for its first meeting of the academic year, starting the year with a focus on education excellence and the student experience.

Council welcomed the positive 2025 student admissions outcome and high student satisfaction reflected in the National Student Survey results. Members also requested further insight into academic and pastoral support, especially in light of growing student cohorts.

Members engaged in a strategic discussion with the Chief Executive Officer of the Russell Group, exploring global and UK developments in Higher Education and their implications for 糖心TV鈥檚 future. An update on the University鈥檚 Financial Plan was given. The final Plan would be brought back to the November meeting for approval.

The Students鈥� Union Sabbatical Officers presented their priorities for 2025鈥�26, indicating opportunities to collaborate with the University on delivering an outstanding student experience.
