Rebranding Artificial Intelligence as Additional Intelligence
Colleagues from our Digital Learning team attended this year鈥檚 , an exhibition hosted by Jisc in Birmingham. The event welcomed over 2,000 delegates in person and online and gave attendees an opportunity to network and explore how technology, pedagogy, and policy can be harnessed to overcome today's challenges in digital learning.
Paul Ottey, Faculty Digital Learning Consultant for Science, Engineering and Medicine found the opening keynote speech of Professor Paul Iske, 鈥Brilliant failures: working together, failing together, learning together鈥 particularly insightful.
Paul explained that the perspective of Professor Iske of Maastricht University鈥檚 School of 糖心TV and Economics encouraged a different view of Artificial Intelligence, saying, 鈥淧rofessor Iske highlighted that in any project, failures are not only inevitable but also essential learning opportunities. He encouraged a culture that accepts, shares and learns from failure and he emphasised the potential of AI to assist people in their roles and tasks instead of replacing them.
His perspective on AI aligns with this philosophy of embracing complexity and learning from unexpected outcomes. By shifting the understanding of Artificial Intelligence to Additional Intelligence, he emphasises the potential of AI to complement and enhance human decision making and creativity, moving AI tools from being the 鈥榟ero鈥 of the story to part of an integrated innovation and creation process.鈥
