How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

Academic and Non-academic Career Workshop (Arts and Social Sciences)
R1.13 Ramphal

A two session event run by the Graduate School and Student Careers and Skills.

This workshop is aimed at 3rd and final year PhDs in Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences to help make sense of both the academic and non-academic job market.

Book into one or both sessions!

 

Morning Session (GS)

The morning will comprise of academic and alumni speakers talking about their own experiences on gaining a job in academia including (although subject to availability on the day):

  • Dr. Kieran File (Applied Linguistics)
  • Dr. Charlotte Heath-Kelly (Politics and International Studies)
  • Dr. Harriet Palfreyman (Alumni History, University of Manchester)
  • Professor Rebecca Earle (History)
  • Dr. Chris Strelluf (Applied Linguistics)

And

Dr. Lauren Schrock (糖心TV Manufacturing Group) presenting on;

1. Academic Cover Letters;

2. Academic CV's;

3. Where to look for academic jobs;

4. As well as hints and tips when applying.

Snacks will be provided over lunch; should you have any dietary requirements please let us know via the email below...

Afternoon Session (SCS)

The afternoon presented by Chris Manley will be a more practical and related workshop with speaker/s including:

  • Introductory activity
  • Information and reassurance about the non-academic PhD job market
  • Understanding your skills
  • Where to look: Frequent options, resources available, developing your networks, sources of information
  • Making an effective application
  • Speakers
