National Storytelling Week

- Export as iCalendar

Dear Parents and Carers

As we are all aware, babies and young children love and need storytelling in their lives.

Being told a story or looking at books with an adult supports children’s language and communication skills, develops imagination and creativity, fosters positive behaviours, reenforces traditions as well as informing children about the world we live in. These are only a few of the benefits that storytelling provides as well as it being fun!

This year the National Literacy Trust in partnership with ‘Go All In’ National Year of Reading 2026 have created resources for parents and practitioners to support babies and children’s development through Storytelling. Please find the parent resources in this link to

The staff will be doing activities throughout the year to promote storytelling and spark children’s interest in books. As part of this strategy, I would like to invite you to come into nursery and tell a story or read a book to the children in your child’s class. This can be done anytime throughout the year, in large or small groups of children, whenever you have time. I would also like to encourage parents to read stories in their home language, giving the children the experience of listening to different patterns and rhythms of different languages.

If you would like to come and read a story to the children, please talk to your key person.

Kind regards
