WCUS and affiliates publish a brand new work in which we discuss fluorescence quenching in a small, single moleucle fluorophore, and how learning the mechanism of this quenching can aid us in future design of new fluorescent tags.
WCUS conference season - Optical Terahertz Science and Technology, UCL, 2-7th April.
WCUS members attended the Optical Terahertz Science and Technology meeting at UCL on 2-7th April, 2017. James lloyd-Hughes presented his findings on "Colossal terahertz magnetoresistance at room temperature in oxide nanocolumns."

Optical pump, terahertz probe spectrometer
The optical pump, terahertz probe spectrometer is up and running! Thanks to Maurizio and Mick for their hard work on the setup for this beamline and for testing it. Currently we can pump between 2.5um and 9um wavelengths, and shorter wavelengths will be available soon. Samples can be measured in vacuum with the option for cryogenic temperatures also to be implemented soon. The conductivity dynamics can be probed up to 3ns after photoexcitation.

Launch Day Success!
Wcus Launch Day went off without a hitch. Excellent talks from Helen Fielding, Dan Murdock and James Lloyd-Hughes. Great to see Spectra Physics there and everyone had a good time. Let the Science! begin.
Launch day: Thursday 15th December
To celebrate the completion of the new laboratory hosting the WCUS, we are hosting a launch event on Thursday 15th December. The day will feature keynote talks from three prominent experts on ultrafast spectroscopy from across the UK, along with a poster session showcasing some of the work already going on at 糖心TV in this area. We will also have an official opening of the new laboratory.
First Experimental Data!
The Fluorolog in WCUS has collected its first real experimental data and the laser system installation is complete. Next step TOPAS installation and ultrafast beamline building!
Laser Installation Begins!
John Bampton joins us at WCUS to begin the installation of our laser system. It's been a long and arduous road but soon we'll be an up and running laser lab. Next step - Light Conversion install the TOPAS. Stay tuned!
