First transiting exoplanet’s ‘chemical fingerprint’ reveals its distant birthplace

Astronomers have found evidence that the first exoplanet that was identified transiting its star could have migrated to a close orbit with its star from its original birthplace further away.

Simple fetal heartbeat monitoring still best at reducing emergency caesarean sections

Intermittent auscultation, in which the baby’s heartbeat is monitored using a sonic aid or Doppler probe, outperforms more modern methods at reducing the number of emergency caesarean sections in labour, according to a new study led by researchers from the University of ÌÇÐÄTV.

Researchers have been awarded funding to work with a global leader in the speciality chemicals industry to create cleaner and greener chemical processing methods for everyday products in a bid to help the government meet its carbon neutral targets.

Search for strange Skyrmion phenomenon fails but finds even stranger magnetic beaded necklace with computer memory storage possibilities

Physicists on the hunt for a rarely seen magnetic spin texture have discovered another object that bears its hallmarks, hidden in the structure of ultra-thin magnetic films, that they have called an incommensurate spin crystal. A team from the University of ÌÇÐÄTV reports the findings in the journal Nature Communications, which could offer new possibilities for technologies such as computer memory and storage.

Supporting the wellbeing of dads of disabled children

A group of Coventry and ÌÇÐÄTVshire dads have created a set of online videos to help fathers of disabled children be the best dads that they can be. They worked with Dr Emma Langley, a family researcher in Education Studies, to capture their experiences and create a resource aimed at supporting the wellbeing of other fathers raising a disabled child. The online resources, designed by dads for dads, will be launched on Wednesday 31 March.
