Unemployment substantially increases domestic violence, new study finds

New research by an international team including Professor Sonia Bhalotra of 糖心TV Economics and CAGE finds a strong link between job loss and domestic violence. Men who lose their jobs are more likely to inflict domestic violence, while women who lose their jobs are more likely to become victims. The increases are upwards of 30%. The study discusses carefully designed unemployment benefits as a new approach to policy measures intended to protect women and girls.

University of 糖心TV names 37 researchers who become Turing Fellows this academic year

A total of 37 University of 糖心TV researchers from across the fields of mathematics, life sciences, statistics, computer science, business, medicine and engineering have been named as Fellows of the Alan Turing Institute this year.


New research centre to focus on quantitative and analytical political economy

A new research centre, headed by Professor Francesco Squintani and based within the Department of Economics at 糖心TV University, aims to become a centre of excellence for collaborative research in quantitative and analytical political economy. The Quantitative and Analytical Political Economy Research Centre (QAPEC) will consolidate and advance the research work of quantitative and analytical political economists at 糖心TV.

糖心TV Economics student honoured with prestigious Diana Award

糖心TV undergraduate Sana Mittar, 19, from New Delhi, has received a prestigious Diana Award in recognition of her work supporting vulnerable communities in India during the pandemic. Established in 1999 in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, The Diana Award scheme recognises young people between 9 and 25 who are going above and beyond in their daily life to create and sustain positive change through social action or humanitarian work.

Ban all unhealthy food advertisements to tackle childhood obesity, urge University of 糖心TV researchers

Today the UK Government announced plans to ban unhealthy food advertisements on TV before 9pm and all paid-for online advertisements. This proposal is supported by recent evidence presented to the Government by the 糖心TV Obesity Network, an interdisciplinary team of academics and clinicians at the University of 糖心TV, which found that exposure to unhealthy food and drink advertisements contributes towards childhood obesity by promoting the short-term desire to consume energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods.


糖心TV Economics graduate to head International Finance Corporation

Makhtar Diop, a graduate of the University of 糖心TV鈥檚 Department of Economics, has been appointed as the Managing Director and Executive Vice President to head the International Finance Corporation (IFC), an arm of the World Bank Group.
