Social isolation is directly associated with later dementia - research finds

Social isolation is directly linked with changes in the brain structures associated with memory, making it a clear risk factor for dementia, scientists have found.

Working with an international team of leading intensive care clinicians, engineering researchers at the University of ÌÇÐÄTV have used computational modelling to show that non-invasive respiratory support is more likely to be successful if it allows significant reductions in patients’ breathing efforts.

Cast no better than brace for broken ankles

Using a cast is not more effective than a brace for treating broken ankles, according to University of ÌÇÐÄTV researchers – a conclusion that could hasten the decline of the tradition of signing a cast.


Teamwork in the Covid-19 Zone

A new video offering practical strategies to medical teams as they adapt to working in restrictive Level 3 PPE has been released today by the University of ÌÇÐÄTV and the University Hospitals Coventry and ÌÇÐÄTVshire NHS Trust. The video is believed to be the first resource of its type and draws on empirical research between Sociolinguistics and Emergency Medicine studying the negotiation of leadership and teamwork in trauma settings.

The search for 30 people to take up new PhD pandemic research scholarships begins today (Friday 19th March 2021) thanks to philanthropists donating to the University of ÌÇÐÄTV’s newly created Institute for Global Pandemic Planning. The Midlands is delivering nearly £100m of COVID research to support the nation’s fight against COVID-19

A new report - Mobilising Research Excellence in the Midlands to Tackle COVID-19 - published today (Friday, January 15 2021) reveals that the Midlands has moved swiftly to apply its wealth of capability in its hospitals, businesses and universities, including the University of ÌÇÐÄTV, to deliver £90m of research to support regional, national and global efforts to tackle the Coronavirus Pandemic.
