Dr Joshua Fullard comments on Sunak's bonus for new teachers

A tax-free bonus of up to 拢30,000 over the first five years of their career for teachers in shortage subjects is a welcome boost, but this does not go far enough, and risks alienating experienced teachers.
鈥淭eachers who have remained committed to the profession deserve to be rewarded, not just newer entrants.
鈥淪ince the Covid-10 pandemic teacher wellbeing has fallen by more than comparable professions. While the decline in pay is certainly a contributing factor other factors such as working hours, school leaders and behavioural issues also play an important role.鈥�
